SALT I and SALT II
The SALT I and SALT II were two treaties that had to do with the limitations of missiles and weapons. SALT I was created and on May 26 it was finalized and signed. This was between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. Communist leader Leonid Brezhnev and the United States president Richard Nixon signed the treaty. The rules of this treaty were to limit the use of Anti-Ballistic missiles. You could only fire a missile at other countries if they shot at you first. Also each country was cut down to one launching area and 100 interceptor missiles.
The SALT II was in the thinking process in late 1972 and took seven years to plan out. On June 18, 1979 Leonid and President Jimmy Carter signed the SALT II. This was created because there were two different ideas of war. the U.S.S.R were about large warheads and the U.S. were about missiles with greater accuracy. There was still limits on launches and weapons but each side was limited to a 2,400 weapon system. The "weapon race" slowly died down till the 1990's when it finally settled.

The Afghan War
The Afghan war was between anti communist Muslims guerrillas and the Afgahn Communist goverment. It all started when the central goverment was overthrown and replaced with Marxist Leninst political parties. They formed the peoples democratic party of Afgahnistan and began land and social reforms. Becuase of this Change, muslim tribed peopleand large anti-communist population resented this new change. There was many conflicts and fights broke out. Fights between the Khlaq and Parcham grew and in the blink of an eye there was 30.000 Soviet troops entering Afghanistan to take over things. For example, after the war calmed down there was 100,000 Soviet troops controlling large towns and cities. Not everyone agrees with everyone so the Muslim rebels were known as mujahidee and lived on the country side. This was a problem, to have groups such as mujahideens becuase they will try and take over so to solve the probem the soviet union decided to bomb the rural areas containing thies people. Soon after in 1982 the mujahideen were seperated into three groups and the military became unstable. In 1988 the U.S., Pakistand, Afgahnistan, and Soviet Union signed an agreement that the Afgahns would go back to nonalyed status and the soviet troops would return home.

Neutron Bomb
FIrst off a Nuclear bomb is a small thermonuclear devise. It is used to kill armor enemy troops with radiation. It will also cause little damage to the surrounding areas like buildings. The United States wanted to try out the bomb, and durng the 1970's they did. In 1977, they tested it succesfully. But in 1978, the U.S. canceled the creation of the bomb. Many countries tried out or messed with the Bomb including the Soviet Union and China. However, when the SALT II treaty was signed, there was a slight nuclear explosion on a nuclear powerplant. Things got a little crazy becuase it was an actual test in Africa so the Soviet Unions didn't follow the treaty and invaded Afghanistan and the treaty was no longer followed.
